I am just starting to look at Titanium and have a very simple question. Besides Flash objects mentioned above, what can you use for UI controls? I prefer not to have the overhead of the flash plugin. I will be building online/offline cross-platform apps. May also need to be locked down kiosk mode. Sound possible with Titanium?

The options are almost limitless. Essentially, anything that will work in a web browser will most likely work in Titanium. For example, on the app which my company is developing, we are using ExtJS to render all the UI components, and that works quite well in Titanium. There is also support for numerous other libraries too, like Prototype. The standard web controls work too, so you have many options there.

The only place where Titanium would fall short of a browser is in the case where a plugin is needed. Flash works in Titanium, but any other plugin (like O3D) won’t necessarily work.

That helped and I’ve dug in! Like ExtJS a lot. Now, can you recommend a reporting engine that can be embedded and connects to SQLite? I’d prefer not to require the JRE. I’d really like to incorporate some ExtJS charts (look like they may require Flash Player?) inside printer friendly reports. Does Titanium leverage both Mac and PC local printers i.e. through OS API calls? Ultimately, I’d like the users to be able to generate PDF or Word (maybe OpenDoc) files when they run reports. I appreciate your response.

I can’t help you too much with recommending an embedded reporting engine.

I am have not seen any printing ability by Titanium, but if I see anything, I will post a tutorial on how to do it.
